A worker in his 50s has died after being buried by soil at a construction site for underground facilities.
The Incheon Fire Department stated that a collapse occurred at a Korea Electric Power Corporation (KEPCO) construction site in Wanggil-dong, Seo-gu, Incheon, at approximately 3:40 a.m. today (June 26).
In the accident, a man in his 50s, identified as A, was buried by the soil. He sustained severe injuries and was transported to a hospital in cardiac arrest, but was later pronounced dead.
A, who was a subcontractor employee, was reportedly working on burying a box-type electrical device underground at the time of the accident.
Investigations indicate that A was working at a site for a new manhole installation when the soil collapsed, burying a significant portion of his body.
The police plan to investigate the exact circumstances of the accident and determine whether safety regulations were followed at the site.
KEPCO stated, "We plan to do our utmost to cooperate with the investigation."
