A fire broke out at a pig farm in Cheonbuk-myeon, Boryeong, South Chungcheong Province, at approximately 5:30 p.m. today (June 18) and was extinguished about two and a half hours later.

While there were no human casualties, fire authorities reported that approximately 1,950 pigs raised at the farm perished in the blaze.

Upon the outbreak of the fire, authorities issued a Level 1 emergency response and mobilized all available personnel and equipment from the local fire station, bringing the main fire under control within two hours.

As large amounts of black smoke were generated by the fire, the city of Boryeong sent emergency text alerts to residents, advising them to "keep windows closed and take precautions against smoke inhalation."

Fire authorities are currently investigating the exact scale of the damage and the cause of the fire.
