President Lee: "CPTPP Is Inevitable Despite Frustrations... Unlikely to Conclude Within My Term" President Lee Jae-myung said today regarding the Comprehensive and Progressive Agreement for Trans-Pacific Partnership , which has faced strong opposition from farmers and fishers, that "while it may be frustrating, it is an inevitable task," adding, "for the good of the entire nation, we must see it through even if there is some criticism, so that we can move on to the next stage." Presiding over a town hall meeting at the Cheong Wa Dae State Guest House titled "Dialogue with Farmers and Fishers: The President Will Personally Listen to the Opinions of Farmers and Fishers," President Lee said, "For the sake of the country as a whole, this cannot be avoided," adding, "Instead, if we move forward with it, we must focus on what supplementary measures to put in place." His remarks drew attention as they virtually indicated his recognition that, from a long-term perspective, it would be difficult for the government not to pursue CPTPP accession.
