Amid fierce cheering wars between KT home fans united by LED lights and Samsung away fans wearing sky-blue raincoats, it was KT that grabbed the momentum.

In the bottom of the first inning with one out and runners on first and third, Hilliard blasted an opening two-run RBI single and then scored when Kim Sang-su hit an infield hit.

In the third inning, marquee batter Ahn Hyun-min hit the first home run of the Korean Series.

With no outs and a runner on second, he hit a two-run home run over the left-field wall to make it 5-0, forcing Samsung starting pitcher Choi Won-tae off the mound.

In the fifth inning, Han Seung-taek hit a solo shot over the left-field wall, and in the sixth, Kim Hyun-soo launched a two-run home run over the right-field wall, sending Suwon KT Wiz Park into a frenzy.

The Samsung batters, who had been silenced by KT starting pitcher Daniel with no runs and seven strikeouts through six innings, began their pursuit in the seventh.

Starting with Koo Ja-wook's two-run homer up to Lee Jae-hyun's two-run RBI single that struck the outfield wall, they put up five runs in a single inning.

Gaining momentum, the Samsung lineup added two more runs in the eighth on Kim Seong-yun's RBI single and Park Young-hyun's wild pitch, narrowing the gap to 8-7, a single-run game.

However, KT closer Park Young-hyun struck out three batters in the bottom of the ninth to preserve the one-run victory and successfully capture Game 1.

[Lee Kang-cheol / KT Manager: It really made me realize once again that we must never let our guard down even a little bit in big games. It was a good game until the very end.]

In Game 2 today (November 4), KT's Ko Young-pyo and Samsung's Fedde will face off as starting pitchers.
