Shu Bao, the younger sister of the nation's beloved giant panda Fu Bao, has been revealed to the general public for the first time. Crowds gathered from early in the morning yesterday (October 30) on her very first day out.

Reporter Yun Nara has the details.

Baby panda Shu Bao peeks her head out just behind her mother, Ai Bao, as they enter the enclosure.

Born this past June, Shu Bao initially seemed unaccustomed to the outside world and hesitated to step outside the doorway.

[Visitor: She's by the door. Right by the door. Hey little one, come this way.]

Soon, however, she is busy playing—walking alongside her mother, climbing up and down stone steps, and even scaling a large tree.

Seemingly uneasy, the mother carries Shu Bao back down beneath a wooden board, but driven by curiosity about her unfamiliar surroundings, Shu Bao avoids her mother's gaze and wanders back down to the ground.

Meaning "a treasure as bright as the dawn," Shu Bao is the fourth panda born in South Korea.

Weighing just 171 grams at birth, Shu Bao has grown rapidly over the past five months or so, now weighing over 9 kilograms.

Because she is still young and needs time to adapt to the outdoor environment, her initial public viewing was limited to just one hour starting at 10:00 a.m., yet people flocked in from the early morning hours to catch a glimpse of her.

From children who traveled all the way from Yeonggwang, South Jeolla Province, to see Shu Bao,

to others who were reminded of Fu Bao, who left for China two years ago.

[Kim Hae-na and Taeha / Seoul: Fu Bao was a bit bigger, but Shu Bao is definitely a baby so she seems smaller. She was so tiny that it was amazing.]

Because Shu Bao's twin older sisters, Rui Bao and Hui Bao, are scheduled to return to China this coming December, all five members of the panda family can be seen in South Korea until December 11, which marks the final public viewing date.
