A railway station employee in his 30s, identified as A, has been arrested on charges of inflicting severe injuries by wielding a weapon against a female colleague at the office of Wondang Station in Goyang, Gyeonggi Province.

Police investigations revealed that A stated he sprayed air freshener on himself after the victim told him he smelled like cigarettes on the day of the incident. He reportedly claimed that he grew angry and committed the crime after taking an excessive amount of psychiatric medication that he usually takes.

However, A is also known to have told police that he cannot remember the exact moment of the attack.

At the time of the incident, the victim entered the pantry with the station master to have a discussion, and A immediately followed them inside and brandished the weapon, according to the investigation.

The victim, who sustained injuries to her neck and face, regained consciousness overnight after undergoing multiple emergency surgeries, but she remains in the intensive care unit for treatment.

Police are examining the possibility of a premeditated crime, noting A's statement that he "always carried two weapons because he had to protect himself if someone attacked him."

Investigators have also secured statements from people familiar with the situation indicating that the victim had previously requested the company to separate her working arrangements from A due to work-related conflicts.

Police, who have sought an arrest warrant for A on charges of attempted murder, also plan to investigate allegations that the victim's request for a workplace separation was ignored.
