Ahead of Halloween on October 31, police are launching a crackdown on fake police uniforms.

The Korean National Police Agency announced that it will conduct intensive enforcement against the manufacturing, sales, and distribution of imitation police uniforms and equipment starting tomorrow, October 26, through November 1.

Under current laws, individuals who are not police officers but wear or possess police uniforms, or similar uniforms and equipment, can face up to six months in prison or a fine of up to 3 million won.

The police plan to work with the Korea Online Shopping Association to inspect search engines and major secondhand trading websites, and block related search terms such as "police uniform" and "police clothes."

They will also step up inspections on around 50 major online retailers and conduct on-site guidance and crackdowns in major areas nationwide, including Itaewon and Hongdae, with plans to request formal investigations if illegal activities are uncovered.
