The Ministry of Foreign Affairs announced today (October 24) that it held the "2nd Law Enforcement Officials Invitation Program for 2026" to strengthen cooperation networks for the protection of overseas citizens.

Under the program, a total of eight law enforcement officials from seven countries and territories—the Netherlands, Timor-Leste, Malaysia, Mexico, the U.S. territory of Guam, Vietnam, and Cambodia—visited South Korea from October 19 to today.

The participants included officials who cooperated in protecting South Korean citizens in connection with the 2026 FIFA World Cup, as well as law enforcement personnel from Southeast Asian countries who contributed to the Korean government's efforts to address transnational crime.

During their visit to the foreign ministry, the invited officials received briefings on the 24-hour operation systems of the Overseas Safety Situation Room and the Consular Safety Call Center, and exchanged views on ways to enhance cooperation with the ministry.

They also toured the Seoul Metropolitan Police Agency's Hongik Police Substation and the Incheon Airport Regional Immigration Service to observe the 112 emergency dispatch and response system as well as advanced immigration screening and security systems. In addition, they experienced South Korea's latest safety and security technologies by attending the Korea Police World Expo 2026 hosted by the Korean National Police Agency.

Jo Ju-seong, director-general for overseas safety affairs at the ministry, met with the visiting officials to express gratitude for their contributions to protecting South Korean nationals and requested their continued close cooperation with Korean diplomatic missions overseas, the ministry said.
