It has been learned that the suspect in the Incheon Guwol-dong stabbing spree, a man in his 50s surnamed Choi, stated during police questioning that he committed the crime to gain attention.

According to reports, Choi had been staging a one-man protest since last August, claiming his athlete's foot symptoms did not improve after receiving treatment at a hospital located in Gyeyang-gu, Incheon.

He reportedly harbored a grudge after police launched an investigation following a report from the hospital that he was carrying a weapon at the time.

During police questioning, Choi reportedly stated, "I was looking for a way to make my grievance known to society, and I thought that if I committed a major crime, I could draw attention and make it known." He added, "I did not target a specific person and chose someone who looked weaker than me, but I had no intention to kill."

Stating that they deem Choi's claims to be lacking in credibility, police explained that they have deployed three profilers to investigate his motives in greater detail.

With one additional victim confirmed, the total number of victims in this case is now 10, consisting of four men and six women.

It was found that the additionally confirmed victim was not injured because the weapon swung by Choi hit a cigarette pack in their upper pocket.

The teenage female victim, who was found in a state of cardiac arrest, is currently unconscious and reportedly reliant on mechanical ventilation.

Police plan to apply for an arrest warrant for Choi as early as today on charges of attempted murder and carrying a weapon in a public place.
