Director Hang Hang-jun's psychological thriller film "Open the Door" is being adapted into a play.
The play "Open the Door" depicts the process in which hidden memories and concealed secrets—as well as the truth kept closed away for seven years—come to light on a night when a man knocks on a door. It is based on the director's film of the same name released in 2023. At the time of its release, the film drew around 19,000 viewers nationwide. Thanks to the massive box office success of "The King's Warden," which was released in January and surpassed 16 million admissions, director Hang Hang-jun is now experiencing the joy of seeing his previous work reborn on stage.
Kim Sung-kyu, Lee Si-hyung, and Hong Ki-joon have been cast in the role of Mun-seok, a man living with the secrets of his past. Ahn Woo-yeon, Oh Kyung-joo, and Lee Bong-jun will play Chi-hun, who returns after seven years to track down the truth, while Kwak Sun-young and Gong Min-jung join as Yun-ju, who opened the door of secrets, bringing a total of eight actors to the stage.
Moving away from the dialogue- and psychological warfare-centered structure of the film, this stage production aims to deliver a new sensory immersion by unfolding different times and spaces simultaneously on a single stage.
Adaptation and direction are led by director Oh Se-hyeok, who won the Grand Prize at the 2025 Seoul Theatre Festival for the play "100 Hours at the Official Residence." Content Hap is in charge of production, with BA Entertainment, the production company behind the original film, participating as a co-producer.
"Open the Door" will run this coming December at Yes24 Art One Hall 3 in Daehakro.
