Former BIGBANG member Seungri is facing police investigation after being sued for special assault.
The Seoul Gangnam Police Station launched an investigation after receiving a complaint on August 26 claiming that the complainant was assaulted by Seungri at a restaurant in Gangnam.
The complainant, a man in his 30s identified as A, claims he was assaulted by Seungri while the latter was with acquaintances.
As the incident became known, Seungri directly spoke with media outlets to explain the situation at the time.
Seungri stated that while he was dining with acquaintances, an intoxicated person, A, suddenly demanded to join their table claiming to have a business idea, which led to an argument.
He strongly refuted the claim, saying, "It is true that I held a liquor bottle while refusing to let him join, but I never swung it or used it to threaten him."
He further claimed that they subsequently drank together, exchanged phone numbers while agreeing to call each other older and younger brother, and that A even personally escorted him out as he was heading home.
He expressed bewilderment over A's sudden notice of a lawsuit, stating that they continued to exchange friendly text messages even after parting ways.
Seungri stated that he has secured objective evidence, including CCTV footage from the restaurant, statements from on-site employees and a valet parking attendant, and text message exchange records with A.
He added, "Based on the facts, I will faithfully cooperate with the investigation," and warned of strong legal responses, including a countersuit for false accusation.
Based on the secured evidence, the police plan to summon the complainant and Seungri soon to investigate the exact details of the incident.
Seungri previously served a 1.6-year prison sentence after being designated as a key figure in the "Burning Sun gate" scandal in 2019.
Bowing his head in apology for causing discomfort once again over personal matters, public sentiment remains cold as controversies continue to follow him even after his release from prison.
