The films "The Odyssey" and "Obsession" have held their ground at the top two spots of the box office.
According to the Korean Film Council's integrated ticketing network on the 10th, "The Odyssey" attracted 76,675 viewers nationwide on the 9th to maintain its position at number one. Its cumulative audience reached 10,192,012.
Following behind, "Obsession" drew 26,367 viewers to secure second place at the box office. Its cumulative audience stands at 239,527.
"The Odyssey" reached the long-awaited 10 million milestone on the 6th, which marked the weekend of its fifth week in theaters. It continued its winning streak into weekdays during its sixth week. However, entering its sixth week, its daily audience count dropped below 100,000.
In contrast, "Obsession" started its theatrical run in third place during its opening week, then surpassed "Spider-Man: Brand New Day" to climb to second place by its second week. Its daily audience numbers are also on an upward trajectory.
Considering that its screening scale is more than three times smaller than the 10-million-viewer hit "The Odyssey," this is an incredible showing.
The two-way race between "The Odyssey" and "Obsession" could see a shake-up starting with the release of "The Intern" on the 16th. With the upcoming Chuseok holiday releases on the 23rd including "The Assassin(s)", "Tazza: The Song of Beelzebub", and "Possible Love", the box office landscape is expected to be reshaped once again.
