Director Chung Ji-young & Actor Yum Hye-ran to Receive Jeju Film Achievement Award for 'My Name'

Director Chung Ji-young and actor Yum Hye-ran, who shared Jeju's painful history with the world through the film "My Name", will receive the Jeju Film Achievement Award from the Jeju Film Festival.

The Jeju Film Festival announced "My Name" as the closing film for its 21st edition and named Director Chung Ji-young and actor Yum Hye-ran as this year's recipients of the Jeju Film Achievement Award, honoring their contribution to deeply shedding light on Jeju's historical pain and creating a global consensus.

Director Chung Ji-young, who has insightful perspectives on the major pains of modern Korean history, was praised for perfectly expanding regional tragedy into a universal drama of empathy through this film, her 20th directorial work.

In addition, actor Yum Hye-ran, who played Jeong-soon, a resilient Jeju mother who steps forward proudly by overcoming her scars rather than remaining a blind victim, drew praise for her irreplaceable passionate performance.

The awards ceremony for the Jeju Film Achievement Award at the Jeju Film Festival is scheduled to take place at 3:00 PM on October 4 at Lotte Cinema Jeju Yeondong, alongside the screening of the closing film.

"My Name" made the hearts of global audiences beat as well as domestic viewers. At the 25th New York Asian Film Festival (NYAFF) which concluded last July, it beat out competitive overseas works to receive overwhelming support from audiences and took home the Audience Award. This is a remarkable achievement following the 75th Berlin International Film Festival and the 28th Udine Far East Film Festival.

The warm love calls from the global film industry are set to continue into the fall. It has been officially invited to the competition section of the 14th Asian Film Festival Barcelona, opening on October 22, accompanied by high praise from the director who stated, "The film is so wonderful that we definitely want to invite it to our festival."

Additionally, it was named in the panorama section of the 26th Kaohsiung Film Festival in Taiwan starting on October 9, and Director Chung Ji-young and actor Yum Hye-ran plan to visit the local area in person to share a special connection with global fans through various events.

"My Name" is a generational mystery drama where mother Jeong-soon, who holds the cold memories of Jeju in 1949 in her heart, and an 18-year-old boy named Young-ok cross 78 long years to face a brilliant truth. Having finished its theatrical run, "My Name" is currently available through simultaneous theater VOD and IPTV services.
