Choi turned on a live stream through his social media on the morning of August 30. Appearing with messy hair and unfocused eyes, Choi held a glass of whiskey and repeatedly drank, stating, "It is 7:27 in the morning. I am drunk. Completely drunk."
He added, "Since it is this time, there is no one to stop me and I am so happy," while also self-deprecatingly commenting on his appearance, saying, "I look so ugly right now. It is because I am a pig." He continued the broadcast to fans expressing concern, saying, "Koreans will be sleeping right now. No one is awake at 7:28."
Immediately after the broadcast, fierce debates erupted online regarding Choi's drunk live stream.
Fans responded with comments such as, "What is wrong with an adult having a drink alone and turning on a live stream to communicate with fans?" and "His honest side is just cute." On the other hand, criticisms arose, stating, "Is there any need to show such a disheveled appearance after drinking?" and "Considering there are underage fans, he should have considered his influence."
This is not the first time Choi has been embroiled in controversy. In 2023, he received a fine for littering a cigarette butt on the street and posted an apology letter. In 2024, he caused a stir after uploading a photo of a Bearbrick figure on his social media, in which his full-body nude silhouette was reflected on the surface of the object. Last year, he drew criticism after throwing a hard pitch toward an underage batter as a ceremonial first pitcher at a professional baseball game.
Having established himself as a rising actor through appearances in "Twenty-Five Twenty-One", "Weak Hero Class 1", and "Notes from the Last Row", fans are expressing deep disappointment over his repeated careless actions.
