Will the film "The Assassin(s)" be able to reshape the box office following "The Odyssey"? Unmistakable signs are emerging about three weeks ahead of its release.

According to the Korean Film Council's ticketing statistics on the 31st, "The Assassin(s)" ranked second in both categories that morning with a 7.7 percent reservation rate and 33,000 ticket sales. Although there is a wide gap with the number one film "The Odyssey" (64.7 percent, 280,000 tickets), it is remarkable that "The Assassin(s)" entered at second place right as ticket sales opened, 23 days before its release. This serves as an indicator of prospective audiences' expectations for the film.

September 23, the release date for "The Assassin(s)", falls during the Chuseok holiday season. On this day, "Tazza: The Song of Beelzebub" and "Possible Love" will be released simultaneously, and "The Intern" will open a week earlier on September 16, pointing to fierce competition. However, "The Assassin(s)" stood out first in reservation rate indicators, getting a head start in the battle for public awareness against its competitors.

"The Odyssey" drew over 1 million viewers even during its fourth weekend since release, surpassing a cumulative total of 8.86 million viewers. With its box office momentum showing no signs of slowing down, it is expected to surpass the 10 million mark around this weekend. However, starting around the Chuseok holiday three weeks later, a downward trend for "The Odyssey" is anticipated. At the same time, it is expected to become a battleground for newly released Chuseok films.

"The Assassin(s)" tells the story of tracking the suspicions and masterminds behind the first lady assassination attempt that shocked South Korea on August 15, 1974. It is directed by Hur Jin-ho, who made "One Fine Spring Day" and "The Last Princess", and stars Yoo Hai-jin, Park Hae-il, and Lee Minho.
