Samsung Electronics is set to establish a new HVAC (heating, ventilation, and air conditioning) production line in Gwangju for FläktGroup, a global climate control company acquired by Samsung last year. The initiative aims to foster Gwangju into a key production hub for the Asia-Pacific region, responding to soaring global demand driven by AI data centers and other sectors.
Here is reporter Jung Kyoung-won from KBC.

The HVAC industry, which precisely controls indoor and outdoor temperature, humidity, and air quality, has recently experienced rapid growth.
This surge is driven by the explosive increase in high-performance servers due to the expansion of artificial intelligence, leading to soaring demand in data centers, semiconductor plants, and large-scale industrial facilities.
Samsung Electronics is establishing a manufacturing plant for Fläkt Korea, which specializes in manufacturing such advanced climate control equipment.
Under the plan, 240 billion won will be invested to build an HVAC production line on idle land at the 3rd Campus of Samsung Electronics Gwangju Complex located in Cheomdan.
The facility will produce cooling water distribution units for AI data centers, air cooling equipment, and HVAC systems for large buildings.
With administrative licensing procedures currently underway, Samsung aims to break ground next month and begin operations in early 2028.

The Jeonnam-Gwangju Unified Special City expects this investment agreement to serve as a crucial turning point in transforming the regional manufacturing sector into an advanced, high-value-added industry.

Gwangju City, Samsung Electronics, and FläktGroup believe the new investment will not only create hundreds of direct jobs but also establish a localized HVAC industry ecosystem linked with regional businesses.
