Hong Kyung-min ♥ Kim Yu-na Share First Parenting Conflicts on 'You're my destiny'

Singer Hong Kyung-min and haegeum player Kim Yu-na opened up about their realistic parenting differences on SBS's "You're my destiny," which took the number one spot in viewership ratings among Tuesday entertainment programs.

According to Nielsen Korea, an audience measurement company, the August 11 broadcast of SBS's "You're my destiny" recorded a 4.3% household viewership rating in the Seoul metropolitan area and 1.4% for the key 20-49 demographic, rising from the previous week and ranking first in its time slot. Notably, the 20-49 rating ranked first overall among all entertainment shows, dramas, and news broadcasted that day, with peak viewership per minute soaring to 5.8%.

On this broadcast, the everyday life of Hong Kyung-min and Kim Yu-na, a couple married for 13 years with two daughters, was revealed for the first time. The couple, who shared that they had never clashed once since getting married, confessed that they started experiencing conflicts over parenting as their children grew older.

The contrast in their approaches was starkly captured by the everyday cameras. Kim Yu-na emphasized set rules, trying to control media consumption, sugar intake, and allowance payouts, whereas Hong Kyung-min showed a more lenient side by giving extra allowances above the set amount, stating he did not want to make the children feel frustrated.

Their views on education also clashed. Hong Kyung-min revealed that he even stopped his children from attending academies, saying, "If they are going to study vaguely like I did, I wonder if they even need to go to college." Kim Yu-na countered, "They need to learn in-depth, so they cannot let go of their studies."

Kim Yu-na shared her inner thoughts, saying, "The kids have something to rely on because their dad doesn't budge at mom's words." She added, "I wish my husband would take my side and give weight to a mother's words when disciplining the child." Hong Kyung-min agreed with his wife, saying, "I think my wife is right. For some reason, I just get soft when it comes to the kids, and that is why I couldn't do it in those moments."

Meanwhile, in the studio, MC Kim Gura shared a firsthand observation of Hong Kyung-min's firm disciplinary style, saying, "When we were doing a golf broadcast, I witnessed Hong Kyung-min shouting at the children." He then surprised the set by confessing an unexpected side of himself, saying, "I have raised kids myself, but I have never shouted at anyone like that."
