Heo Sung-tae Teases 'Our Sticky Love' Villain: "Deok-su from 'Squid Game' Can't Compare"

Actor Heo Sung-tae is returning as an unprecedentedly vicious villain who surpasses Deok-su from "Squid Game".

On the morning of the 5th, a press conference for the new Netflix series "Our Sticky Love" (written by Mo Ji-hye, directed by Kim Jang-han) was held at Hotel Naru Seoul MGallery in Mapo-gu, Seoul. Director Kim Jang-han, along with actors Jung Hae-in, Hayoung, and Heo Sung-tae, attended the event and shared various stories about the project.

"Our Sticky Love" is a romantic comedy depicting the flutter-filled cohabitation between Ko Eun-sae (played by Hayoung), an elite prosecutor suffering from amnesia, and Jang Tae-ha (played by Jung Hae-in), a boxing coach who insists he is her boyfriend.

In the series, Heo Sung-tae plays Baek Sang-gil, a crime boss who laundered his identity to become part of a massive corporation. After hearing the news that prosecutor Ko Ji-won (played by Hayoung), who holds his weakness, is alive, he relentlessly pursues her, adding heart-pounding tension to the romance between the two leads.

Introducing Baek Sang-gil, Heo Sung-tae said, "He is the meanest role I have ever played. He is narrow-minded and incredibly persistent. His viciousness is at the absolute worst, and he is beyond comparison to Deok-su," comparing the character to Jang Deok-su, the villain he played in "Squid Game".

Heo Sung-tae shared that after mainly playing good characters for the past three years, he initially struggled to get back into the groove when taking on a villain role after such a long time. He drew laughter from the room with his witty remark, "While filming a scene where blood splattered on my face, I felt a sense of euphoria and thought, 'Ah, this is the feeling.' That was when I seemed to catch the hang of it and fully immerse myself."

Director Kim Jang-han, who led the production, explained the reason for casting him, saying, "Though his visual appearance is scary, actor Heo Sung-tae is actually very shy and pure. As he plays a character holding the key to a major plot twist in the drama, I believed he would bring out the unexpected charm of his true personality."

Finally, expressing his confidence about the reaction he hopes to get through this project, Heo Sung-tae said, "I hope viewers will curse at me even more," and added, "I will show you a charming villain who is vicious yet paradoxically possesses a cool narrative."

"Our Sticky Love" consists of a total of 12 episodes and will be released on Netflix on the 7th.
