Hollywood actor Matt Damon explained why he chose to visit a baseball stadium as his very first schedule during his trip to Korea, marking his return in 10 years.
Attending the press conference for the movie "The Odyssey" held at the Four Seasons Hotel in Gwanghwamun, Seoul, on the morning of the 3rd, Matt Damon talked about visiting Gocheok Sky Dome on August 1st, the day he arrived in Korea, to watch the baseball game between the Kiwoom Heroes and the SSG Landers. He said, "I have a friend who is a baseball agent. The player he represents (Matt Davidson) plays for the Kiwoom Heroes. When I arrived at the airport, I was told I could catch that day's game. I had heard so many good things about Korean baseball that I really wanted to see it, so I went with my daughters."
Matt Damon picked the cheering culture as the most impressive aspect of Korean professional baseball. Recalling that day, Damon shared, "The game itself was fun, but it was so fascinating how the two teams had their own ways of cheering. They don't do that in the US. Korea's unique way of cheering was so intriguing and fun. I was so glad to have the opportunity to experience Korean baseball this time."
Visiting Korea for the first time in 10 years ahead of the release of the movie "The Odyssey," Matt Damon surprised baseball fans, reporters, and viewers at the scene by appearing at the stadium before even shaking off his jet lag. On this day, Damon and his two daughters wore matching Kiwoom Heroes uniforms and cheered for the Kiwoom victory along with player Matt Davidson, with whom he is acquainted.
In "The Odyssey," a film adaptation of Homer's original epic poem "The Odyssey," Matt Damon delivered a passionate performance in the role of Odysseus. The movie is set to be released on the 5th.
