The Yeongdong Police Station in North Chungcheong Province has booked a man in his 50s, surnamed A, on charges of setting his own vehicle on fire after causing a minor traffic accident.

A is suspected of driving a 1-ton truck and rear-ending a passenger car driven by B at an intersection in Simcheon-myeon, Yeongdong-gun, North Chungcheong Province, around 1:00 p.m. yesterday, and then fleeing the scene without taking any measures.

Investigations revealed that A subsequently drove the truck to Yangsan-myeon and set it on fire on a secluded road.

Police, who launched an investigation following a resident's report that a vehicle was on fire, arrested A at the scene.

At the time of his arrest, A's blood alcohol concentration was reportedly at a level subject to license revocation.

Police are investigating the exact circumstances of the incident based on A's statement that he set the fire because he was angry.
