The labor union of KakaoBank will stage a full-day strike on July 31 following the breakdown of wage negotiations.

Seo Seung-wook, head of the Kakao branch of the Korean Chemical, Textile & Food Workers' Union under the Korean Confederation of Trade Unions (KCTU), announced the plan during a picket protest held today (July 21) at the Kakao Agit in Pangyo, Seongnam, Gyeonggi Province.

"We have decided to proceed with a full-day strike at KakaoBank on July 31," Seo said. "The company has not engaged in negotiations actively, and the differences between labor and management have not been narrowed."

However, he did not disclose any additional strike schedules for Kakao headquarters or other affiliates.

The union estimated that approximately 300 people, including KakaoBank union members, participated in today's picket protest.

Participants wore black short-sleeved shirts and black masks, holding picket signs or chanting slogans such as "Negotiate in good faith," "Distribute our achievements fairly," "Stop management's monopoly," and "The company must pursue coexistence, not monopoly."

KakaoBank's labor and management failed to reach an agreement during wage negotiations and went through mediation procedures with the Gyeonggi Regional Labor Relations Commission, but they were unable to narrow their differences during the mediation meeting held yesterday.

The Gyeonggi Regional Labor Relations Commission decided to suspend mediation, concluding that the gap between the two sides was too wide to continue.

It is reported that the KakaoBank union decided on the full-day strike after completing relevant procedures, including a vote on industrial action.
