The armed conflict between the United States and Iran is escalating. With two U.S. soldiers killed and one missing following a missile and drone attack launched by Iran in retaliation for U.S. airstrikes, Iran's supreme leader has labeled the U.S. the "Great Satan" and warned that they will be taught an "unforgettable lesson."

The U.S. Central Command announced on July 17 (local time) that two U.S. soldiers stationed in Jordan were killed and one is missing following ballistic missile and drone attacks by Iran.
These are the first U.S. military fatalities since armed clashes began over a week ago, following the effective collapse of the memorandum of understanding (MOU) on ending hostilities signed by the U.S. and Iran last month.
The U.S. military continued its nighttime airstrikes against Iran for the eighth consecutive day on the night of July 18 (U.S. Eastern Time).
The U.S. stated that these strikes were intended to "further degrade Iran's ability to threaten merchant shipping in the Strait of Hormuz" while also "swiftly retaliating against the Iranian Revolutionary Guard Corps for their attack on U.S. forces in Jordan."
As Iran continues its retaliatory attacks, Supreme Leader Mojtaba issued a strongly worded statement, referring to the U.S. as the "Great Satan."
[Mojtaba Khamenei / Written Statement: The repeated violations of the memorandum of understanding signed between Iran and the U.S. President by the 'Great Satan' demonstrate that the U.S. President's signature is worthless and void...]
He further warned that Iran and the resistance front would deliver an "unforgettable lesson" to the United States.
With the death of U.S. soldiers and the hardline statement from Iran's supreme leader, tensions in the Middle East are rising further.
Amid reports that the U.S. is deploying dozens of additional aerial refueling tankers to Israel and gathering fighter jets back in the Middle East, Iran has maintained that if U.S. attacks continue, it will not hesitate to launch a full-scale offensive beyond mere retaliation.
