The Korean Sport & Olympic Committee (KSOC) has amended its articles of association to significantly expand the electoral college for its presidential election. With the number of eligible voters set to increase 41-fold to approximately 92,000, the change is also expected to impact the upcoming Korea Football Association (KFA) presidential election.

The Korean Sport & Olympic Committee held an extraordinary general assembly and unanimously approved an amendment to significantly increase the size of its presidential electoral college.
Under the new amendment, all executives, referees, coaches, and athletes who meet the criteria for qualifications and activity will be granted the right to vote in the presidential election.
The KSOC explains that this will enhance democratic legitimacy and representation, as the number of voters will increase 41-fold from the previous system, where approximately 2,200 people were selected by lottery to cast ballots, to about 92,000.

Member sports organizations under the KSOC are required to improve their own systems based on this amendment and apply them to elections held from 2028 onwards. However, the committee has left the door open for the Korea Football Association, which is under intense public scrutiny, to change its voting method immediately.
The K-Football Innovation Committee, co-chaired by KSOC President Yoo Seung-min, has already announced plans to urgently push for extending the deadline for the KFA presidential by-election and significantly expanding the electoral college.
Meanwhile, the National Assembly hearing on the Korea Football Association, originally scheduled for the 22nd, has been postponed to the 30th.
