The Chungnam Fire Department stated that a 119 emergency call was received around 2:00 p.m. today (June 28), reporting that two children had been pinned under a passenger car in an apartment complex in Jigok-myeon, Seosan, South Chungcheong Province.
Fire authorities rescued the two 8-year-old boys at the scene and transported them to a nearby hospital. One child, who was in cardiac arrest upon arrival at the hospital, ultimately passed away.
The other child is reported to have sustained serious injuries.
Police believe that the driver, a person in their 50s, was driving through the complex's thoroughfare when they failed to see the children coming down a downhill section on their swing cars at an intersection, leading to the collision.
Police have booked the driver on charges including violation of the Act on Special Cases Concerning the Settlement of Traffic Accidents and are investigating the exact circumstances of the incident.
