This is the 'Banryeomaru Memorial Hall,' a public pet funeral home that began operations this month.

As the second public pet-specialized funeral facility in the country and the first in Gyeonggi Province to be operated by a local government, it is equipped with three memorial rooms, two cremation units, and a charnel house with 408 niches.

[Cho Eun-ji / User of the Banryeomaru Memorial Hall charnel house: There is Memorial Room 1 and Memorial Room 2. It is more pleasant and spacious than I expected, which is why I chose this place.]

Opened in 2023, Banryeomaru Yeoju is the largest pet-focused complex cultural facility in the country, established by Gyeonggi Province.

Spanning over 160,000 square meters, the site features animal protection and adoption facilities, a veterinary clinic, educational facilities, a cultural center, and playgrounds.

[Ham Yoon-jin / Visitor to Banryeomaru Yeoju: There are wide-open grass fields, and separate playgrounds have been set up as well. I think it's a great place for dogs and their owners to come together to play and experience various things.]

With the opening of the funeral facilities, it is now possible to manage everything from meeting a pet to play, education, and memorial services in one place.

[Byun Hee-jung / Director of the Pet Animal Division at Gyeonggi Provincial Office: We are striving to ensure that residents can use this space comfortably and conveniently as a complex cultural space that covers the entire life cycle of pets, from adoption to memorial services.]

Banryeomaru stated that it is particularly focused on the protection and adoption of abandoned animals, noting that it cared for 891 rescued animals last year.
