Police officers raid a dermatology clinic in Gangnam, Seoul.
Upon opening a medical refrigerator inside the clinic, they discover a pile of syringes filled with a white liquid, along with several bags containing an unidentified white substance.
The substances included psychotropic drugs such as propofol, midazolam, and ketamine. Police believe the clinic had been illegally administering these drugs in exchange for cash—on the condition that no medical records were kept—for nine months, from June of last year to March of this year.
In fact, a bundle of cash totaling approximately 27 million won was found in the clinic's safe.
According to the police, when drugs like propofol are used, the frequency and dosage must be recorded in the Ministry of Food and Drug Safety's management system, but the clinic omitted these records.
Furthermore, police suspect that the clinic was essentially running a "propofol business," recruiting habitual users through social media and other channels.
A total of six individuals have been apprehended on charges of violating the Narcotics Control Act, and the hospital director along with two office managers have been arrested.
Some of these individuals were already under investigation for their involvement in the illegal administration of propofol while working at another dermatology clinic in Gangnam previously.
Police have determined that even after moving to this new clinic, they utilized the information of previous drug users to continue their criminal activities.
The police have also apprehended 12 individuals who received the illegal injections and are currently investigating them, stating that "the number of users may increase further."
