The Coast Guard launched a rescue operation after a citizen who attempted to save foreign tourists swept away by waves at Naksan Beach in Yangyang, Gangwon Province, also became trapped in the water.

According to the Sokcho Coast Guard, at 3:30 p.m. on June 23, an American tourist identified as A (56) and her daughter were swept into the sea by high waves at Naksan Beach.

Two citizens, including B (19), witnessed the incident, notified the Coast Guard, and headed into the sea to rescue A.

When the Coast Guard arrived at the scene, A's daughter and one of the citizens who had jumped into the water had already managed to get out on their own. However, A and B remained trapped in the water due to the high waves.

In response, officers from the Naksan Coast Guard Substation donned safety equipment and jumped into the sea to reach the two individuals.

They then conducted a swift rescue operation and safely brought both people back to the shore.

It is reported that neither A nor B suffered any health issues.

Chief Lee Woo-soo stated, "Accidents can occur at beaches due to sudden high waves, so please be sure to follow safety rules and make it a habit to wear safety equipment such as life jackets."
