The Defense Acquisition Program Administration (DAPA) announced on Wednesday that amendments to the Enforcement Decree of the Defense Acquisition Program Act and the Enforcement Decree of the Act on Promotion of Defense Science and Technology Innovation, aimed at supporting the rapid export of domestic defense companies, were passed at a cabinet meeting the previous day and will take effect starting next month.

Following the amendment to the Enforcement Decree of the Defense Acquisition Program Act, the exemption period for export licenses for maintenance parts for defense materials will be extended from the current two years to five years.

This institutional improvement is designed to provide stable follow-up logistics support for weapon systems operated over long periods, and the amendment will allow for more rapid supply of necessary maintenance parts for domestically produced weapon systems exported overseas.

With the amendment to the Enforcement Decree of the Act on Promotion of Defense Science and Technology Innovation, the approval period for technology transfer contracts by DAPA will be shortened from the current two months to one month.

In addition, the procedure has been simplified by allowing the exemption of the technology transfer contract approval process when exporting maintenance parts for defense materials that have already been approved for export to the same user.

DAPA Commissioner Lee Yong-cheol stated, "This amendment to the enforcement decrees reflects the opinions from the field of defense exports and rationally improves export procedures," adding, "We will actively support our defense companies' entry into overseas markets by easing regulations on repetitive exports of maintenance parts and accelerating the technology transfer contract process."
