▲ Contractor involved in the 'LG Electronics stabbing incident'

A contractor who carried out a stabbing attack at an LG Electronics office has been indicted while in custody.

The Seoul Southern District Prosecutors' Office (Chief Prosecutor Ki No-seong) announced today (June 23) that it has indicted the contractor, identified by his surname Jeong (60), on charges of attempted murder.

Jeong is accused of wielding a weapon on the second floor of LG Science Park, the company's office complex in Magok, at approximately 11:00 a.m. on May 27, causing serious injuries to two LG Electronics employees.

The victims, a man in his 50s and a man in his 40s, were transported to a hospital with injuries to their side and arm, respectively, but their lives are not in danger.

During police questioning, Jeong claimed, "The victims had ignored me. I committed the crime out of anger after receiving a notice of dismissal." However, the victims stated that Jeong had been struggling with his workload, leading them to request a change in his duties through the representative of his contracting firm.

Police investigations revealed that no notice of dismissal had been issued to Jeong.

It was confirmed that Jeong had misinterpreted the request from LG Electronics to change his assigned duties as a notice of dismissal, as the victims had suggested.

LG Electronics previously stated that its internal investigation found no evidence of the "workplace harassment" claimed by the employee, and that on the day of the incident, they had suggested to Jeong that he be reassigned to a different project rather than being dismissed.
