As officials at the National Human Rights Commission of Korea (NHRCK) continue to declare their refusal to accept assigned posts in protest of Chairperson Chang-ho Ahn’s management, a fifth such declaration was made this morning (June 23).

The NHRCK labor union announced that Nam Gyeong-hye, an information management team leader (secretary-level official) who was appointed as the head of the Daegu Human Rights Office yesterday (June 22), posted a message on the internal bulletin board requesting the withdrawal of her appointment.

"While receiving a post in the public sector is usually an honor and a joy, I feel no such joy," Secretary Nam stated. "The NHRCK remains trapped in the night of the December 3 insurrection two years ago. There has been no reflection or accountability regarding the agenda item on President Yoon Suk Yeol’s right to defense. We have once again failed to participate in the Queer Culture Festival this year," she criticized directly.

"Chairperson, you have said multiple times that you are 'listening' and will 'take responsibility' when the results of the staff survey were released last year, and even now as division heads are returning their posts, yet you have done nothing," Secretary Nam said, urging Chairperson Chang-ho Ahn to make a decision regarding his position.

To date, there have been a total of five instances where NHRCK officials have expressed their intent to return their posts in opposition to Chairperson Ahn’s leadership.
