Henri Matisse, a master of 20th-century modern art, shook the art world with his vibrant colors and later opened a new artistic horizon with just a few lines and scissor cuts. A major exhibition where you can feel the spirit of the master is coming to Cheongju next month.
CJB reporter Lee Min-a has the story.

The fingertips of an elderly painter move across the paper several times.
Without hesitation, he draws a line, and moments later, a human face is complete.
It is the simplest form of expression reached after a lifetime of studying painting.
This is the creative process of Henri Matisse, a 20th-century modern art master well-known for his "cut-out" technique of cutting and pasting paper.
[Shim Sung-ah/Docent: Matisse believed that 'art should provide peace and comfort to humanity.' I hope you will also find much comfort through the colors, forms, and works that Matisse expressed so sincerely.]
The master who was ahead of his time with the simplest lines and intense colors, Henri Matisse, is coming to Cheongju this summer.
The exhibition, titled "Henri Matisse and the Painters of Paris," is hosted by CJB Cheongju Broadcasting and will be held at the Cheongju Cultural Industry Complex (Korea Craft Museum).
Featuring Matisse at the center, the exhibition will showcase a total of about 230 works, including those by Raoul Dufy and Marie Laurencin.
[Shim Sung-ah/Docent: It will be a most captivating exhibition if you compare and appreciate how these three artists, who lived in the same era, viewed the world of art and expressed it in their own ways.]
For visitors eagerly awaiting the opening, an early-bird event is currently underway, allowing them to purchase tickets at a 50% discount.
"Henri Matisse and the Painters of Paris" will open on July 16 and welcome visitors for 102 days.
