Confirmed for a full release on July 17, the Netflix series 'The East Palace' tells the story of Gu-cheon (played by Nam Joohyuk), who possesses the ability to cross into the spirit world, and Saeng-gang (played by Roh Yoon-seo), a court lady harboring a secret. Summoned by the King (played by Cho Seung-woo), they delve into a curse that has taken hold of the East Palace.
The teaser poster, unveiled on June 18, delivers a powerful impact, capturing the solemn figure of the "ghost slayer" Gu-cheon standing with a sword inside a palace shrouded in dark clouds. The collapsed stone lanterns, murky vines that seem to melt from the curse, and the ominous aura surrounding them offer a glimpse into the "spirit world" that Gu-cheon traverses. In particular, the poster's tagline, "Crossing the boundary between the real world and the spirit world to uncover secrets," teases the desperate struggles and dynamic action Gu-cheon will display as he moves between the two realms.
The accompanying teaser trailer begins with Gu-cheon being summoned to the palace amidst a grim and eerie atmosphere. While the King, who originally did not believe in ghosts or superstitions, secretly summons Gu-cheon to the East Palace, Gu-cheon senses that the palace is filled with deep resentment. Declaring, "I will enter the spirit world and seek out the ghosts," he walks directly into the spirit world through a pond to vanquish the vengeful spirits.
In the alternate realm where the crimson energy of blood surges, Gu-cheon ruthlessly wields his sword, exuding a heavy charisma as he delivers a chilling warning: "Those who commit sins will eventually be punished." Meanwhile, in the real world, the court lady Saeng-gang is seen with a determined expression, smearing blood on her forehead. This, along with the mysterious phenomena faced by the King and the Queen Dowager (played by Jang Young-nam), heightens the tension to its peak.
Faced with the cruel curse of the East Palace—"Once you enter, you can only leave in death"—curiosity is exploding among global fans as to whether they can survive and uncover the dark, hidden secrets.
Above all, the acting synergy between Nam Joohyuk, who will showcase a radical action transformation, Roh Yoon-seo, who will display a unique charm as the mysterious court lady who hears the dead, and Cho Seung-woo, who commands the screen with his overwhelming presence even in brief appearances, raises expectations for 'The East Palace.'
The 8-episode series 'The East Palace' will be released simultaneously worldwide on Netflix on July 17.
