"Even My House Was Destroyed" Completely Paralyzed... Poured Down in an Instant [World Report]

Rivers overflowed over bridges, and access roads to residential areas were submerged in muddy water.

This footage comes from Fannin County and Gilmer County in northern Georgia, where the U.S. National Weather Service issued a flash flood emergency, the highest level of warning, between the night of November 4 and the early hours of November 5, local time.

With heavy downpours of up to around 60 millimeters per hour concentrated in the area, accumulated rainfall exceeding 150 millimeters was recorded in various mountainous regions.

The torrential rain, poured down in a short period, caused nearby rivers such as the Toccoa River to overflow instantly, while landslides paralyzed major roads.

[Vernon Tanner / Evacuee: Buildings have been destroyed. My building and business are right here by the river, and they are completely ruined. My house further down the river was also destroyed.]

The city of McCaysville, located on the Tennessee border, declared a state of emergency and closed all access roads.

With the entry of civilians completely prohibited except for police and emergency personnel, swift water rescue boats are being deployed one after another to rescue isolated residents.

[Mike Earley / McCaysville Director of Public Safety and Police Chief: There was no warning at all. We just had to watch the water rise from the poured rain. An enormous amount of rain fell in a short time, and I've never seen a flood like this in my life.]

As rescue teams faced difficulties approaching due to roads being cut off in various places by landslides, electrical short-circuit fires caused by flooding also occurred continuously.

Authorities have set up a temporary shelter at a nearby recreation center and repeatedly urged residents to strictly avoid traveling through flooded areas, warning that even if the rain subsides, water levels downstream could continue to rise for some time due to water flowing down from upstream.
