Stolen of 70 Million Won in 'Betting Golf'… 'Suspicious Coffee' Caught on CCTV

After finishing his meal, a man leaves his seat first, and the remaining three quickly start moving.

While one goes to keep watch, a man sitting at the table opens a coffee lid, looks around, and drops something inside.

It was a type of sleeping pill that impairs cognitive function.

A gang of three has been arrested by the police for swindling cash and valuables by feeding sleeping pill-laced coffee to their betting golf opponent.

They are accused of secretly mixing pre-prepared sleeping pills into the victim's coffee while the victim went to the restroom at a golf course in Gyeonggi Province last July, and extorting 75 million won by playing betting golf with the victim.

It was revealed that they intentionally approached the victim six months prior, building trust by intentionally losing at betting golf, and divided roles on the day of the crime such as manufacturing the drug, keeping watch, and delivering the drink.

The police secured CCTV footage from the golf course and confirmed their crime following a report from the victim, who felt unusual physical symptoms.

The Namdaemun Police Station sent the man in his 60s who brewed the "sleeping pill coffee" to the prosecution under physical detention on charges of violating the Narcotics Control Act and fraud on October 30, while forwarding the remaining two accomplices without detention.

The police stated, "This is a case showing that drug-related crimes can infiltrate even everyday spaces where people enjoy leisure and sports with acquaintances," adding, "We will respond strictly to drug-related crimes."
