Incheon Airport Customs announced today (October 30) that it has arrested a man in his 60s, identified as A, on charges of violating the Narcotics Control Act for attempting to smuggle and distribute marijuana hidden inside international mail from the United States.

Mr. A is accused of receiving 226g of marijuana sealed in plastic bags alongside cereal via international mail from the U.S. last August with the intent to distribute it domestically.

Investigations revealed that in an attempt to evade tracking by investigative authorities, he designated an alley in Gangbuk-gu, Seoul, as the delivery address and used quick delivery services to move the mail across multiple transfers.

Customs authorities tracked the delivery route through controlled delivery and successfully arrested Mr. A on an emergency basis in Gangbuk-gu on October 4, additionally securing 3.83g of philopon (methamphetamine) and drug administration paraphernalia at his residence.

An official from Incheon Airport Customs stated, "Following the detection of drug mail through rigorous inspections, we tracked down and arrested the suspect, and we plan to continue investigating accomplices."
