A station worker in his 30s, identified as A, has been arrested on charges of inflicting serious injuries on a female colleague with a weapon inside the station office at Wondang Station in Goyang, Gyeonggi Province.
According to police investigations, A stated that on the day of the incident, after the victim told him he smelled like cigarettes, he sprayed air freshener on his body. He reportedly claimed that he became angry afterward, took an excessive amount of psychiatric medication that he usually takes, and then committed the crime.
However, A is also known to have told police that he does not remember the exact moment of the attack.
Investigations showed that at the time of the attack, when the victim entered the pantry with the station manager to have a consultation, A immediately followed her inside and swung the weapon.
The victim, a station worker who sustained injuries to her neck and face, regained consciousness after undergoing multiple emergency surgeries overnight, but she is still receiving treatment in the intensive care unit.

Police are looking into the possibility of a premeditated crime, as A reportedly stated that he "always carried two weapons because [he] had to protect [himself] if someone attacked [him]."
Police have also secured statements from people around them indicating that prior to the incident, the victim had requested the company to separate her working arrangements from A due to workplace conflicts.
Having filed for an arrest warrant for station worker A on charges of attempted murder, police also plan to investigate allegations that the victim's request for a workplace separation was ignored.
