The government has announced candidate sites for new public housing districts to build 76,700 homes across six Gyeonggi Province areas near Seoul, including Gimpo, Guri, and Hanam. The project will utilize already damaged greenbelts, with a target to break ground by 2030.

The largest among the candidate sites announced by the Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transport is the Gimpo Ara district in Gochon-eup, Gimpo, which will accommodate 37,000 households.
This is followed by 14,600 households in Guri Geonwon and 12,000 households in the Hanam Misa K-Culture district.
The Ministry explained that all these locations are transportation hubs situated within 5 kilometers of the Seoul boundary, consisting of greenbelts that are either undergoing or at risk of haphazard development.
This announcement serves as a follow-up measure to the plan to supply 100,000 new housing sites unveiled in the August 13 countermeasures.
Combined with the 27,200 households in downtown Seoul Gangseo, Namyangju, and the Gwangju Station area in Gyeonggi Province revealed at that time, the total scale reaches 104,000 households.
The "fastest-track groundbreaking model for public housing sites" will be applied to the six locations, processing the approval, compensation, and site development procedures simultaneously.
This aims to cut the period from housing site announcement to groundbreaking from the conventional 68 months down to 37 months.
The Ministry stated that it investigated land ownership among employees of the Ministry and the Korea Land and Housing Corporation (LH), but found no suspicious cases of speculation.
Additionally, among transactions over the past three years, 654 cases have been selected for abnormal transaction investigations, with plans to request investigations if illegal activities are suspected.
Land transaction permission zones designated during the August 13 countermeasures will be lifted, excluding the areas affected by these new candidate sites.
Minister of Land, Infrastructure and Transport Hong Ji-sun stated, "It is more important than ever to continuously supply housing in prime areas preferred by genuine homebuyers, such as young adults and newlywed couples."
