Director Hur Jin-ho to Speak Out... MBC's 'PD Note' Examines Controversy Over Film 'The Assassins'

MBC's 'PD Note' is set to cover the controversies surrounding the film 'The Assassins'.

Released on September 23 and surpassing 3.34 million in cumulative moviegoers, 'The Assassins' became embroiled in a historical distortion controversy while raising suspicions regarding the August 1974 assassination of First Lady Yuk Young-su.

This led to protests in front of the lead actor's home and complaints against companies employing the actor as an advertising model, while the necessity of a search and seizure was even raised during the National Assembly audit. In addition, 109 lawmakers from the People Power Party sent a letter to the 37th Singapore International Film Festival (SGIFF) organizers requesting the withdrawal of the film's selection as the opening work, but the film festival organizers did not accept it.

Director Hur Jin-ho, who has remained silent for nearly a month, will appear in person through this broadcast to state his position on the pouring criticisms and controversies.

'PD Note' will cross-reference the reporting records of past major media outlets and investigative reporting programs (such as MBC's 'Now It Can Be Told' and SBS's 'Unanswered Questions') with the portrayals in the film to verify the grounds for the suspicions raised by the movie.

In addition, the program covered the atmosphere of the opening ceremony of 'The Assassins' on-site in Singapore and plans to examine the boundary between legitimate criticism and pressure that infringes upon freedom of creation.

The 'PD Note' episode titled "The Assassins: Who Crossed the Line?" will air tonight (the 27th) at 10:20 PM.
