An off-duty firefighter returning home reportedly spotted a house fire by chance and successfully contained it in the early stages.
The fire broke out at around 9 PM on October 4 at a house in Gimje.
Firefighter Oh Hyun-seung of the Iksan Fire Station, who was returning home after going out, was told about the fire by his family members and immediately headed to the scene.
Finding the main gate locked, Firefighter Oh jumped over the wall to enter the yard. He then alerted a resident who was inside the main bedroom and unaware of the fire, helping them evacuate safely.
He then used bottled water found nearby to carry out initial firefighting efforts, put out the remaining embers, and even ventilated the indoor space.
Firefighter Oh's family promptly called 119, and thanks to the swift initial response, the fire thankfully did not spread significantly.
