The late Fire Inspector Kim Jin-seok died in the line of duty after being deployed to extinguish a fire at a metal parts factory in Bucheon, Gyeonggi Province, on October 16.
His funeral was held this morning at the Bucheon Indoor Stadium as a Gyeonggi Provincial Government funeral.
Fellow firefighters and the bereaved family exchanged final farewells with solemn expressions.
Honoring his dedication and sacrifice, the government posthumously promoted him one rank from Fire Sergeant to Fire Inspector and awarded him the Okjo Order of Service Merit.
[Choi Jun, Head of Bucheon Fire Station: Throughout your tenure, you spared no effort for your colleagues and citizens, risking your life across countless fire suppression, rescue, and emergency response scenes. That noble spirit of sacrifice remains deeply etched in all of our hearts.]
Fire Inspector Kim reportedly received a fire report and was dispatched just 20 minutes before leaving work after completing a 24-hour shift on the day of the accident.
He was the first to enter the scene to suppress the flames and became trapped inside the building.
He was later rescued and transported to the hospital in a state of cardiac arrest, but ultimately passed away.
Following the funeral service, the funeral procession is scheduled to pass through the Bucheon Fire Station, where he served, and his final post at the Ojeong 119 Safety Center, to receive a final farewell from his colleagues.
The deceased will be laid to rest today at the Seoul National Cemetery.
