Middle Schooler Handling Knife on Subway Stirs Alarm

A 13-year-old boy holding a knife inside a Gyeongui-Jungang Line train has been apprehended by police.

At around 5:10 p.m. yesterday, a 112 emergency call was received reporting that a male student was holding a knife on a Gyeongui-Jungang Line train passing near Goksan Station.

The report stated that the student was spinning and displaying a fruit knife about 20 centimeters long in his hand in front of other passengers.

Upon receiving the report, police deployed patrol cars to the station where the train was scheduled to stop and apprehended the student.

During police questioning, the boy stated that he had purchased the fruit knife to cut plastic during a school club activity, and that he was holding it in his hand because he thought it would poke a hole in his pocket.

He also claimed that he had no intention of threatening other passengers.

Police handed the student over to his guardian following the investigation and plan to review whether to book him on charges of possessing a weapon in a public place.
