The fact-finding investigation team of the Prosecutors' Office Human Rights and Future Committee, which deliberates on issues of abuse of prosecutorial power and human rights infringement, has completed its first report four months after its launch. Concerns had been raised that this might provide grounds for dropping the indictment, as the cases included the preferential development favoring the Wirye New Town scandal for which President Lee Jae-myung was indicted. It has been learned that the investigation team reported it is difficult to conclude there was illegality in the investigation and indictment process of the case.

The Ministry of Justice's Prosecutors' Office Human Rights and Future Committee received a report this afternoon (October 15) from the fact-finding investigation team under the committee regarding the first round of investigations into three cases.
This is the first report following the conclusion of investigations into some of the seven initial target cases, four months after the launch.
These included the West Sea official killing case, the real estate statistics manipulation case, and the Wirye New Town development preferential treatment scandal for which President Lee Jae-myung was sent to trial.
The fact-finding team, composed of prosecutors, previously reviewed case records and conducted written surveys of the prosecutors in charge to examine whether there were any problems in the case handling process.
It was understood that the investigation team reported to the committee that it was "difficult to conclude that the investigation or indictment process of the three cases was illegal" or that "there were no problems."
Based on the investigation results and through deliberation, if the committee determines that there is significant illegality, it can recommend separate measures to the Minister of Justice or order supplementary investigations depending on the findings.
In the case of the Wirye New Town scandal, analyses suggest that depending on the committee's deliberation results, it could lead to the dismissal of the indictment for President Lee Jae-myung, whose current trial is suspended.
[Chang Ju-young / Chairperson of the Future Committee (This afternoon): (Criticisms are being raised that this is building grounds for dropping the president's indictment.) I think it is inappropriate to make such remarks before the fact-finding results even come out.]
In addition, several major cases involving President Lee, such as Ssangbangwool's illegal remittance to North Korea and the Daejang-dong development corruption scandal, have not yet been deliberated on, drawing attention to what conclusions the committee will reach regarding this first investigation result.
