Police and military authorities have taken safety measures after an object presumed to be a training grenade was found at an elementary school in Yangpyeong, Gyeonggi Province.

According to authorities, students discovered a grenade on a hill behind the parking lot of an elementary school in Yangpyeong at around 2:11 p.m. today (October 14) and reported it.

The discovered grenade was found with its safety pin and ring attached, and it reportedly had a yellow stripe around the middle of its body along with the Korean phrase meaning "for training" written on it.

No casualties were reported.

Upon receiving the report, police and military authorities cordoned off the area and sent all remaining students at the school home.

In addition, they conducted a search operation to check for any additional hazardous materials in the surrounding area.

The military's Explosive Ordnance Disposal (EOD) team retrieved the grenade and plans to investigate whether it poses an actual explosive risk and the exact circumstances of how it ended up near the school.
