An artificial intelligence model has been developed to automatically identify wildlife captured by automated cameras in national parks.

The Korea National Park Service announced that it will use the AI model to identify wildlife from the approximately 4.7 million video clips captured annually by some 1,300 automated cameras installed in national parks across the country.

Previously, humans had to review the footage to identify the animals appearing in the videos.

While it used to take 208 days to analyze 100,000 video clips this way, the AI model "Bandallens AI" developed by the service can analyze 100,000 clips in just 8 hours, the agency explained.

Bandallens AI automatically identifies 17 species of animals, including Asiatic black bears, long-tailed gorals, Siberian flying squirrels, wild boars, badgers, dogs, and cats.
