The KOSPI opened lower today (the 7th) but turned upward during the session.

According to the Korea Exchange, as of 9:35 a.m. today, the KOSPI stood at 6,953.72, up 12.33 points (0.18%) from the previous session.

The index started at 6,864.25, down 77.14 points (1.11%) from the previous trading day, but subsequently rebounded into positive territory.

In the KOSPI market, individual investors net purchased 612.8 billion won, while foreign investors and institutions net sold 521.1 billion won and 173.8 billion won, respectively.

The index initially opened lower following overnight declines in memory semiconductor stocks, including Micron Technology and SK Hynix ADRs, in the U.S. stock market.

Seo Sang-young, managing director at Mirae Asset Securities, explained, "While demand for AI memory and a tight supply environment remain in place, concerns over a short-term dent in profitability have spread due to a decrease in overseas revenue conversion gains caused by the strong won and the burden of large-scale performance bonus provisions."

However, after the market opened, Samsung Electronics, the top market-cap stock on the KOSPI, expanded its gains, causing the index to trend upward.

Han Ji-young, an analyst at Kiwoom Securities, projected that favorable external conditions, such as the U.S. 10-year Treasury yield falling below the 5.3% range and the stabilization of anxiety in the European government bond market, would act as positive factors for the stock market.

She stated, "During the session, the upside of the stock market is likely to be capped due to overlapping cautious sentiment ahead of Samsung Electronics' preliminary earnings and ahead of the holidays later in the week, shifting the market into a sector-rotation phase."

Among top market-cap stocks, Samsung Electronics (2.39%), SK Hynix (0.08%), and SK Square (2.58%) are rising, while Samsung Electro-Mechanics (-0.78%), LG Energy Solution (-2.56%), and Hyundai Motor (-1.58%) are declining.

By sector, medical and precision instruments (4.96%), entertainment and culture (2.42%), and distribution (1.09%) are advancing, while metals (-2.79%), transportation equipment and parts (-1.77%), and securities (-1.07%) are retreating.

At the same time, the KOSDAQ index stood at 910.16, down 9.76 points (1.06%) from the previous trading day.

The index opened down 2.47 points (0.27%) at 917.45 and is widening its losses.

Individuals are net buying 175.7 billion won, while foreigners and institutions are net selling 142 billion won and 20 billion won, respectively.

Among top market-cap shares, most are trading downward, including Alteogen (-0.19%), EcoPro (-3.14%), and Jusung Engineering (-4.13%).
