Former BIGBANG member Seungri is facing police investigation after being sued for special assault.
The Seoul Gangnam Police Station announced that it has launched an investigation after receiving a complaint alleging that the complainant was assaulted by Seungri at a restaurant in Gangnam on August 26.
The complainant, a man in his 30s identified as A, claims he was assaulted by Seungri while the singer was with acquaintances.
Following the reports, Seungri directly spoke with media outlets to explain the situation.
Seungri stated that the dispute began when an intoxicated individual, A, abruptly demanded to join their table while he was having a meal with acquaintances, claiming he had a business idea.
He strongly refuted the allegations, stating, "It is true that I was holding a bottle of alcohol while refusing to let him join our table, but I never swung it or used it to threaten anyone."
He further claimed that they subsequently drank together, exchanged phone numbers with promises to treat each other like older and younger brothers, and that A even personally escorted him out as he was leaving for home.
Expressing bewilderment at A's sudden legal complaint, Seungri maintained that they continued to exchange friendly text messages even after parting ways.
Seungri stated that he has secured objective evidence, including CCTV footage from the restaurant, statements from on-site staff and a valet parking attendant, and text message logs exchanged with A.
He added, "I will faithfully cooperate with the police investigation based on the facts," while warning of strong legal countermeasures, including a countersuit for false accusation.
Based on the secured evidence, police plan to summon both the complainant and Seungri soon to investigate the exact circumstances of the incident.
Seungri previously served a 1.8-year prison sentence after being identified as a central figure in the Burning Sun scandal of 2019.
Although he bowed his head in apology, saying he felt ashamed to cause discomfort once again over personal matters, public sentiment remains cold amid continuous controversies following his release from prison.
