A man in his 30s in Changwon, South Gyeongsang Province, who refused a police breathalyzer test and fled in his vehicle, was rescued after plunging into the sea.

The Masan Jungbu Police Station announced today (August 31) that it has arrested a man, referred to as Mr. A, on charges including special obstruction of official duties resulting in injury.

Mr. A is suspected of driving away at around 10:55 PM the previous day after refusing a police alcohol test in the area of Jindong-myeon, Masanhappo-gu, Changwon.

Police had been dispatched to the scene after receiving a report suspecting Mr. A of driving under the influence.

As Mr. A fled in his vehicle, a police officer trying to stop him suffered an injury to the elbow.

The Changwon Coast Guard, dispatched following a joint response request from the police, discovered the vehicle that had plunged into the waters near Gwangam Port, about 3 kilometers from the starting point of the pursuit.

The Coast Guard rescued Mr. A as he was sinking in the sea near the vehicle, and the police arrested him at the scene.

The vehicle that fell into the sea was secured with ropes to prevent it from drifting.

Police are currently investigating the exact circumstances of the incident involving Mr. A.
