Kim Dae-nyun took office as the new Secretary General of the Korean Sport & Olympic Committee today.

Secretary General Kim, who was nominated late last month, was appointed following prior consultations with the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism and the approval of the board of directors.

His term is two years, lasting until August 2028.

Kim served in various roles at the National Election Commission, including public relations officer, director of the Election Training Institute, director of the election management bureau, director of planning and management, and deputy secretary general. From November 2016 until his retirement in September 2018, he served as secretary general, a ministerial-level position.

This marks the first time a former ministerial-level public official has taken on the role of secretary general for the Korean Sport & Olympic Committee.

His ties with the committee date back to when he served as the chairperson of the Election Management Committee for both the 41st (2021) and 42nd (2025) elections. Since last year, he has worked as the chairperson of the Election System Improvement Committee, participating in the institutional improvement process of the sports body before being selected as secretary general.

During the inauguration ceremony held at the Olympic Hall in Songpa-gu, Seoul, today, Korean Sport & Olympic Committee President Yoo Seung-min said, "Secretary General Kim not only possesses proven administrative capabilities but also deeply understands the organization and the field better than anyone else through his past work with the committee." He added, "I expect him to play a solid role in guiding us toward becoming a more transparent and trusted organization."

In his inaugural speech, Secretary General Kim stated, "I feel a heavy sense of responsibility for the vital duty of serving as Secretary General of the Korean Sport & Olympic Committee, which represents South Korean sports." He added, "I will do my best to ensure that the committee firmly establishes itself as an organization trusted by the public and to create conditions where employees, member organizations, and the sports field can work with peace of mind."
