The KOSPI surged right at the opening bell, crossing the 7,000 mark during trading for the first time since the 15th. Following the sell-side car on the 20th, buy-side sidecars were triggered for two consecutive days yesterday and today. SK Hynix also briefly recaptured the 2 million won milestone during trading.

Here is a report from reporter Min Gyeongho.

The KOSPI started strong, jumping more than 4% right from the open to break through the 7,000 line.

Just six minutes later, it surged by over 5%, triggering a buy-side sidecar.

This marks the 40th time this year and the third consecutive trading day it has been triggered.

As of 11:30 AM, it is up 5.67% from yesterday, trading at 7,130.

This is the first time in four trading sessions since the 15th that the KOSPI has surpassed the 7,000 threshold during intraday trading.

Foreign investors are leading the rally by purchasing around 2 trillion won worth of shares, while individuals and institutional investors are net sellers.

Samsung Electronics rose by about 6%, and SK Hynix jumped roughly 9% during the session to reclaim the "2 Million Hynix" milestone.

This is attributed to the overnight gains across all three major U.S. stock indices.

The Philadelphia Semiconductor Index, centered on semiconductor stocks, also climbed 5.21%, and SK Hynix's American Depositary Receipts (ADRs) listed in the U.S. surged by 13.75%.

Although international oil prices are rising as the prolonged Middle East conflict prompts the Houthi rebels to blockade the Red Sea—widely considered an alternative route to the Strait of Hormuz—analysts suggest that the market was influenced by global investment bank assessments indicating that the fundamentals of semiconductor stocks remain intact.

Some interpretations also suggest that bargain-hunting buying flowed in following evaluations that the recent drop had been excessive.

The KOSDAQ is up 2.79% from yesterday at 774.

Related stocks are showing sharp gains following news of Samsung Electronics actively pursuing its robotics business.

The won-dollar exchange rate is fluctuating around the 1,480 won level.
