A 50-year-old nurse in Japan has been arrested on charges of murdering an inpatient by injecting feces into the patient's intravenous (IV) drip.
The suspect, identified as A, is accused of injecting feces into the IV tube of a 75-year-old patient, B, at a hospital in Kashiwa, Chiba Prefecture, around 4 a.m. in January.
Patient B passed away one day after the incident, and the cause of death was determined to be multiple organ failure due to sepsis.
At the time of the incident, A was working as the nurse in charge of the night shift. Security footage from the hospital captured A entering and leaving B's room.
A hospital staff member discovered that the inside of the IV extension tube had turned brown and reported the incident to the police, stating that there was a possibility that a foreign substance had been introduced.
It was reported that the victim was in good enough health to hold normal conversations until the day before their condition rapidly deteriorated.
Nurse A voluntarily resigned from the hospital and is currently known to be working as a midwife at a hospital in Tokyo.
A reportedly denied the allegations even after being arrested.
It is also reported that during police questioning immediately after the incident, A denied any involvement, claiming to know nothing about it.
However, the police confirmed that A had searched for terms such as "injecting feces" and "will it kill" on a smartphone prior to the incident.
Local police plan to conduct an intensive investigation into A to determine the specific motive for the crime.
